French culture through our excursions

French culture is an integral part of learning the French language. A language immersion is only complete if students are familiar with the culture of the place where they are staying and, above all, if they venture to discover the city and the important tourist attractions nearby. That is why at IEF, as well as offering a weekly program of cultural events in Montpellier, we offer our students a wide variety of excursions so that they can take advantage of their free time to visit the charming places around the city.

A cultural getaway for half a day or a whole weekend

The purpose of our excursions is for students to make the best use of their free time. That is why our weekly excursions give our students the space to choose whether they want to spend just a little time out of town or take the whole weekend to travel. Depending on the destination, the excursions can be just for an afternoon, the whole day – on Saturdays and Sundays – or even the whole weekend.

Professional guides

Our students are accompanied by specialized guides in the area of tourism who know perfectly the customs and history of each place they visit. Therefore, they provide our students with all the necessary information to understand each place from the roots of their culture. They are also with them throughout the day and share the good moments of a trip, which are then the memories that our students take home.

Total immersion in French

IEF excursions are also an excellent opportunity to practice everything learned in class since they are in French. In other words, our guides tell the stories of each place in our native language, which allows the student to be completely immersed and feel that he/she is also part of the place.

Diversity of destinations and activities

With our excursions you will have the opportunity to visit towns near Montpellier such as Sète, Avignon or Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer; escape to more distant cities such as Aix-en-Provence or Marseille; or even discover the charm of Barcelona, Spain, for a whole weekend. But it’s not just about touring cities and that’s it, our excursions also offer horseback riding on the beach or in the Camargue, as well as the opportunity to go rafting or kayaking during the summer season. And finally, our guides will make you taste regional specialties in the places you visit and will also propose you cooking or wine and cheese workshops at the IEF.

Marseille - Port

An accessible program

Jeremy, who is in charge of the IEF excursions, goes around each classroom every Monday to tell our students what the week’s activities are. It is also possible to check the excursion schedule at the school’s reception desk or go directly to our weekly activities blog where you will have all the information at hand.

Group outings with no worries

If you are one of those people who do not venture to travel alone, or who do not like to worry about the details that a trip can have, our excursions are perfect for you. They are totally designed so that you only have to worry about enjoying and getting to know the most beautiful places in France. You also have the opportunity to share with other students, which makes everything even more fun. In short, they offer our students the opportunity to discover places that are often very difficult to reach by public transportation or without knowing the area well.
